Marie Forsythe, Co-Artistic Director of the 5 Dance Spotlight Lester
Horton videos, has been the Chairperson of the Horton Department at the
Ailey School since 1979. She was a principal dancer with the Garden
State Ballet Company, the Joyce Trisler Dance Company and the Sophie
Maslow Company. An internationally recognized teacher in the Horton
technique, she is co-author of The Dance Technique of Lester Horton. Ms.
Forsythe has been on the faculty of Vassar College, the Boston Conservatory,
the New School, and the State University of New York at Albany. Her
knowledge of the Horton technique has brought invitations to teach in
all parts of the world, including Japan, Israel, and Argentina, Switzerland,
Sweden, Holland and Germany. She joined the Ailey® School faculty
in 1973. In addition to her duties as chairperson of the Horton
department, she is currently the Administrator of the Alvin Ailey /Fordham
University BFA Program in Dance.
